Your Questions, Answered

  • Do I need a referral? No referral is required to book an appointment. However, if you'd like to access Medicare rebates through a Mental Health Care Plan, you'll need a referral from your GP or psychiatrist.

How do I book a session? Contact me directly via the contact form. I'll respond as soon as I'm able, usually within one to two business days. Once you’ve had your first appointment, you’ll have access to the online booking system to make, change, or cancel future appointments.

What should I bring to my first session? If you have a Mental Health Care Plan or referral, please bring it (or have it emailed ahead of time). Otherwise, just yourself. There's nothing you need to prepare or have figured out before you arrive.

  • What happens in the first session? The first session is a chance for us to begin understanding what's brought you to therapy and to get a sense of whether working together feels like a good fit. We'll talk about what's been happening for you, what you'd like to be different, and how I tend to work. There's no pressure to share more than feels manageable in a first session, particularly if the work involves trauma or experiences you haven't spoken about before. We move at a pace that feels right for you.

How long is each session, and how often will we meet? Sessions are 50 minutes. Most people start with weekly or fortnightly sessions, particularly while we're building a foundation for the work. Frequency may shift over time depending on what you're working on and how you're going.

How long will therapy take? This varies. Some people come for a focused piece of work over a few months; others find longer-term therapy more useful, particularly when the work involves complex trauma or long-standing patterns. We'll talk about your goals and what feels appropriate as we go, and you can step back or finish at any point.

  • How do you work? My approach is psychodynamic and relational, drawing on a range of evidence-based methods. The focus is on the therapeutic relationship and longer-term change. I'm currently completing specialist training in the Conversational Model, a longer-term approach developed for people whose difficulties haven't responded to shorter-term therapy. Full details on my approach, the modalities I draw on, and the presentations I work with are on the Services page.

What's your approach to confidentiality? What you share in sessions stays confidential, with a small number of legal exceptions: where there is serious risk of harm to you or another person, where information is required by court subpoena, or where you've given consent for me to share information with another professional (such as a GP). We'll go through this in more detail in our first session, and I'm happy to answer any questions about it.

What if I'm in crisis between sessions? I'm not a crisis service and I can’t provide between-session emergency support. If you're in crisis, please contact one of the following:

    • Lifeline: 13 11 14 (24/7 crisis support)

    • Suicide Call Back Service: 1300 659 467

    • Beyond Blue: 1300 22 4636

    • Emergency: 000 or your nearest hospital emergency department

If you're going through a particularly difficult period, we can talk in our sessions about what supports might help during that time.

Do you provide reports for court or other legal proceedings? No. I don't provide reports for Court proceedings, Family Court proceedings, family assessments, or reports for other third parties such as insurance companies. I am happy to provide standard correspondence to your GP or wider treating team where this supports your ongoing care.

Combining a treating role with a forensic or expert witness role can compromise the therapeutic relationship, so this kind of work is better handled by a forensic psychologist or specialist medico-legal practitioner.

What if we're not a good fit? Therapy works best when there's a sense of fit between client and therapist, and not every match is right. If after a session or two it doesn't feel like the right match for you, please tell me. There's no awkwardness on my end, and I can help you find another clinician who might be a better fit. Your wellbeing matters more than continuity with me.

  • What are your fees? Sessions are $240. Payment is due at the time of session and can be made by card or direct deposit.

Detailed fee information is available on the Fees & Rebates page.

  • Where is your practice? The practice is in Brookvale on Sydney's Northern Beaches. See the Contact page for full address, parking, public transport, and accessibility details.

Are sessions in-person or online? At present, all sessions are in-person. Telehealth is offered if you are travelling or unwell but still wish to have a session.
